Editorial Policy
Peer Review Policy
Peer-reviewed publications are essential to maintaining the credibility, integrity, and advancement of scholarly knowledge. Kertas of Literature and Art Science (KLAS) upholds a rigorous peer-review process to ensure the quality and originality of all published work in the fields of literature, art, and interdisciplinary humanities.
KLAS operates a single-blind peer review model: reviewers remain anonymous to the authors, while the authors' identities are known to the reviewers.
Initial Editorial Screening
All submitted manuscripts undergo a preliminary review by the Editor-in-Chief or designated Section Editors to evaluate:
-
Relevance to KLAS scope and themes
-
Originality, creative insight, or scholarly innovation
-
Compliance with formatting and submission guidelines
Only manuscripts that pass this initial assessment are sent for peer review.
Peer Review Process
Each manuscript is typically reviewed by two or more independent subject-matter experts, selected based on their expertise and familiarity with the manuscript’s content.
Reviewers evaluate submissions using the following criteria:
-
Originality: Contribution of new perspectives or interpretations
-
Significance: Impact and relevance to literary or artistic discourse
-
Structure and Presentation: Clarity, organization, and adherence to author guidelines
-
Relevance: Value to KLAS’s academic and creative readership
-
Language Quality: Scholarly, clear, and fluent English
-
Overall Merit: Academic or creative rigor and potential contribution to the field
The Editor-in-Chief makes the final publication decision. Editors are required to recuse themselves from manuscripts where a conflict of interest exists (e.g., close collaborators, institutional affiliations, or personal relationships). In such cases, another editor will be assigned.
Review Outcomes
The outcome of the peer review may result in one of the following decisions:
-
Accept as is – No revisions needed (rare)
-
Accept with minor revisions – Minor editorial or structural changes required
-
Accept after major revisions – Significant improvements needed before acceptance
-
Revise and resubmit – Resubmission may be considered following extensive changes
-
Reject – Manuscript is declined due to lack of originality, scholarly rigor, or fit with journal scope
Reviewer comments are reviewed by the editorial team to ensure professionalism. Any confidential remarks intended only for editors are not shared with authors.
Editorial Discretion
-
Editors and Editorial Board members may serve as reviewers for manuscripts in their area of expertise, provided no conflict of interest exists.
-
The Editor-in-Chief may seek additional expert opinions when needed.
-
Final decisions are made based on reviewer reports, the quality of author revisions, and the manuscript’s contribution to the field of literature and art science.
