Guide for Authors

Kertas of Literature and Art Science (KLAS)

1. Manuscript Submission

Authors are invited to submit their manuscripts via the KLAS online submission system at:
https://kertassci.com/journal/index.php/klas/submission

Please use the official KLAS manuscript template.

Authors are encouraged to write directly within the template to ensure proper formatting.


2. Types of Manuscripts Accepted

  • Full Research Articles (3500–8000 words, min. 10 pages, ≥20 references)

  • Review Articles (4000–10000 words, ≥100 references)

  • Case Reports / Practice-Based Studies (1500–2000 words, ≥40 references)


3. Manuscript Format and Structure

  • Page: A4; margins: 30mm (top/left/right), 25mm (bottom)

  • Format: Single-spaced, single-column, Times New Roman, 12pt

  • Numbered pages; justified alignment

  • Use ‘Symbol’ font for Greek characters

  • Language: Clear and fluent English

Required sections:

  • Title Page

  • Abstract (max 250 words)

  • Keywords (3–6 terms)

  • Highlights (optional, max 5 bullet points, 100 characters each)

  • Graphical Abstract (optional)

  • Introduction

  • Materials and Methods

  • Results and Discussion

  • Conclusion

  • Acknowledgements

  • Conflict of Interest

  • Author Contributions

  • References (IEEE Style)

  • Appendices

  • Figures and Tables (embedded in-text)

  • Supplementary Materials (optional)


4. Title & Author Information

  • Use a descriptive, informative title (no formulas or abbreviations).

  • List full names and affiliations of all authors using superscript numerals.

  • Indicate the corresponding author with an asterisk (*) and provide full contact details.


5. Abstract and Keywords

  • Abstract: Summarize objectives, methods, findings, and conclusions.

  • Keywords: 3–6 terms to assist with indexing and searchability.


6. Optional Elements

  • Highlights: Concise bullet points outlining key contributions or insights.

  • Graphical Abstract: Recommended formats: TIFF, EPS, PDF, MS Office. Size: 50 x 130 mm @ 96 dpi.


7. Section Guidelines

  • Introduction: Contextualize the study and state objectives.

  • Materials and Methods: Ensure reproducibility; cite prior methods.

  • Results and Discussion: Combine results with critical analysis and interpretation.

  • Conclusion: Summarize contributions and implications.


8. Abbreviations and Units

  • Define abbreviations at first mention.

  • Use SI units, or provide SI equivalents when using other measurement systems.


9. Acknowledgements & Funding

State all funding sources with grant numbers. If none:

“This study was not supported by any grants from funding bodies in the public, private, or not-for-profit sectors.”


10. Conflict of Interest Statement

Declare all financial and non-financial conflicts. If none:

“The authors declare no conflicts of interest.”


11. Author Contributions

Use the CRediT taxonomy, e.g.:

  • M.H. Hammoud (Conceptualization; Writing – original draft; Supervision)

  • Q. Benshi (Data curation; Methodology; Review & editing)


12. References Style (IEEE)

  • Use numbered [brackets] in order of appearance in the text.

  • Use “et al.” if there are more than six authors.

  • Format all reference types according to IEEE guidelines.


13. Appendices, Figures, and Tables

  • Appendices: Use labels A, B, etc., e.g., Eq. (A.1), Table A.1

  • Figures: High resolution (300–600 dpi); caption below figure, centered

  • Tables: Editable; caption above table; number sequentially


14. Supplementary Material

Optional files that support the manuscript (e.g., datasets, images, videos).
These must be finalized before publication and cannot be altered post-publication.


15. Reproduction Permission

Authors are responsible for obtaining written permission for any reused content from other sources. Proof must be provided during submission.


16. Peer-Review Process

  • Initial editorial screening

  • Single-blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers

  • Authors are encouraged to suggest 3 potential reviewers with institutional email addresses.


17. Language & Plagiarism

  • Manuscripts must be written in clear academic English.

  • All submissions are screened with Turnitin for plagiarism detection.


18. Online First Policy

Accepted articles will appear online as “Online First” prior to being assigned to an issue.
No changes are allowed after Online First publication.


19. Self-Citation Policy

Self-citations should not exceed 5 references or 20% of the reference list, whichever is lower.


20. Galley Proofs

Authors will receive proofs for final corrections of typographical errors only.
Proofs must be returned within 72 hours.


21. Copyright

Authors retain full copyright.

KLAS retains the right to publish and designate KertasSci as the original publisher.


22. Publication Fees

There are no article processing charges (APCs) or publication fees.
All accepted articles are published free of charge.


23. Length Requirements

Manuscripts must be a minimum of 10 pages and 3500 words, excluding references and appendices.


24. Submission Checklist

Ensure the following before submitting:

  • One author is designated as the corresponding author

  • Full author details are included

  • Manuscript uses the official KLAS template

  • All figures and tables are embedded with captions

  • Keywords are included

  • Supplementary files (if any) are uploaded
