Guide for Authors

1. Manuscript Submission

Authors are invited to submit their manuscripts via the KIIS online submission system at: https://kertassci.com/journal/index.php/kiis/submission

Please use the official KIIS manuscript template.

Authors are encouraged to write directly in the template to maintain formatting standards.


2. Types of Manuscripts Accepted

  • Full Research Articles (3500–8000 words, min. 10 pages, ≥20 references)

  • Review Articles (4000–10000 words, ≥100 references)

  • Case Reports / Technical Notes (1500–2000 words, ≥40 references)


3. Manuscript Format and Structure

  • Page: A4, margins 30mm (top/left/right), 25mm (bottom)

  • Format: Single-spaced, single-column, Times New Roman, 12pt

  • Pages: Numbered, justified alignment

  • Greek Symbols: Use ‘Symbol’ font

  • Language: Clear, fluent English

Required Sections:

  • Title Page

  • Abstract (max 250 words)

  • Keywords (3–6 terms)

  • Highlights (optional, max 5 bullet points, 100 characters each)

  • Graphical Abstract (optional)

  • Introduction

  • Methods and Materials

  • Results and Discussion

  • Conclusions

  • Acknowledgements

  • Conflict of Interest

  • Author Contributions

  • References (IEEE Style)

  • Appendices

  • Figures and Tables (embedded in-text)

  • Supplementary Materials (optional)


4. Title & Author Information

  • Use clear, descriptive titles (avoid abbreviations or formulas).

  • List all authors' full names and affiliations using superscript numerals.

  • Indicate the corresponding author with an asterisk (*) and provide a complete email and postal address.


5. Abstract and Keywords

  • Abstract: Summarize objectives, methods, key results, and conclusions (max 250 words).

  • Keywords: 3–6 terms for indexing and discoverability.


6. Optional Elements

  • Highlights: Bullet points summarizing novelty or key contributions.

  • Graphical Abstract: Visual summary in TIFF, EPS, PDF, or MS Office (suggested size: 50 x 130 mm at 96 dpi).


7. Section Guidelines

  • Introduction: Background, significance, and objectives.

  • Materials and Methods: Reproducibility details, cite prior methods if reused.

  • Results and Discussion: Integrated narrative, clear interpretation of findings.

  • Conclusion: Recap contributions and future directions.


8. Abbreviations and Units

  • Define all abbreviations at first use.

  • Use SI units; provide conversions if using alternative units.


9. Acknowledgements & Funding

Acknowledge funding sources and grant numbers. If none:

“This study was not supported by any grants from funding bodies in the public, private, or not-for-profit sectors.”


10. Conflict of Interest Statement

Declare any financial or non-financial conflicts. If none:

“The authors declare no conflicts of interest.”


11. Author Contributions (CRediT Taxonomy Example)

  • M.H. Hammoud (Conceptualization; Writing – original draft; Supervision)

  • Q. Benshi (Data curation; Methodology; Review & editing)


12. References Style (IEEE)

  • Use numbered [brackets] in the order of appearance.

  • Use “et al.” for more than six authors.

  • Apply IEEE format for journals, books, theses, conferences, online sources, etc.


13. Appendices, Figures, and Tables

  • Appendices: Label A, B, etc., e.g., Table A.1

  • Figures: High resolution (300–600 dpi), caption below, centered.

  • Tables: Editable, caption above, numbered sequentially.


14. Supplementary Material

Accepted formats: tables, datasets, code, videos, etc.
Must be relevant to the manuscript and immutable after publication.


15. Reproduction Permission

Authors must obtain and submit permission for any reused materials from third-party sources.


16. Peer-Review Process

  • Initial editorial screening

  • Single-blind peer review by at least two reviewers

  • Authors should suggest 3 qualified reviewers with institutional emails


17. Language & Plagiarism

  • Manuscripts must be written in professional English.

  • All submissions are screened using Turnitin or equivalent for plagiarism.


18. Online First Policy

Accepted articles are published online as “Online First” before issue assignment.
No changes are allowed post-publication.


19. Self-Citation Policy

Authors should limit self-citations to no more than 5 citations or 20% of total references, whichever is lower.


20. Galley Proofs

Authors will receive galley proofs for minor corrections.
Proofs must be returned within 72 hours of receipt.


21. Copyright

Authors retain copyright.
KIIS holds the non-exclusive right to publish and archive the article under KertasSci as the original publisher.


22. Publication Fees

There are no article processing charges (APCs) or publication fees.
All accepted manuscripts are published free of charge.


23. Length Requirements

Articles must be a minimum of 10 pages and 3500 words (excluding references and appendices).


24. Submission Checklist

Before submitting, please ensure:

  • One author is designated as the corresponding author

  • Full contact details are provided

  • Manuscript follows the formatting template

  • All figures and tables are included with proper captions

  • Keywords are listed

  • Supplementary files (if applicable) are uploaded
