Guide for Authors

Author Guidelines

1. Manuscript Submission

Authors are invited to submit manuscripts via the KARS online submission system at:
https://kertassci.com/journal/index.php/kars/submission

Please use the official KARS manuscript template.

Authors are encouraged to write directly within the template to maintain formatting standards.


2. Types of Manuscripts Accepted

  • Full Research Articles (3500–8000 words, min. 10 pages, ≥20 references)

  • Review Articles (4000–10000 words, ≥100 references)

  • Case Reports / Application Notes (1500–2000 words, ≥40 references)


3. Manuscript Format and Structure

  • Page: A4; margins: 30mm (top/left/right), 25mm (bottom)

  • Format: Single-spaced, single-column, Times New Roman, 12pt

  • All pages must be numbered; text must be justified

  • Use ‘Symbol’ font for Greek letters

  • Language: Clear and fluent English

Required sections:

  • Title Page

  • Abstract (max 250 words)

  • Keywords (3–6 terms)

  • Highlights (optional, max 5 bullet points, 100 characters each)

  • Graphical Abstract (optional)

  • Introduction

  • Materials and Methods

  • Results and Discussion

  • Conclusions

  • Acknowledgements

  • Conflict of Interest

  • Author Contributions

  • References (IEEE Style)

  • Appendices

  • Figures and Tables (embedded in-text)

  • Supplementary Materials (optional)


4. Title & Author Information

  • Titles must be clear and descriptive; avoid abbreviations and formulas.

  • List full names and institutional affiliations of all authors with superscript numerals.

  • Identify the corresponding author with an asterisk (*) and include full email and postal address.


5. Abstract and Keywords

  • Abstract: Provide a concise summary of objectives, methods, findings, and conclusions.

  • Keywords: Include 3–6 relevant terms for indexing.


6. Optional Elements

  • Highlights: Short bullet points showcasing the novelty or impact of the work.

  • Graphical Abstract: A visual summary; formats: TIFF, EPS, PDF, or MS Office. Suggested size: 50 × 130 mm at 96 dpi.


7. Section Guidelines

  • Introduction: Describe context, relevance, and objectives.

  • Materials and Methods: Provide details for reproducibility and cite prior methods.

  • Results and Discussion: Present and interpret findings clearly and originally.

  • Conclusion: Summarize the main outcomes and contributions.


8. Abbreviations and Units

  • Define all abbreviations at first use.

  • Use SI units; provide SI equivalents for non-standard units.


9. Acknowledgements & Funding

List funding sources with grant numbers, or state:
“This study was not supported by any grants from funding bodies in the public, private, or not-for-profit sectors.”


10. Conflict of Interest Statement

Disclose any financial or non-financial interests. If none, state:
“The authors declare no conflicts of interest.”


11. Author Contributions

Use the CRediT taxonomy. Example:

  • A. Al-Masri (Conceptualization; Software; Writing – original draft)

  • R. Li (Validation; Formal analysis; Review & editing)


12. References Style (IEEE)

  • Use numbered [brackets] in order of appearance.

  • Apply IEEE format for all types (journals, books, theses, patents, etc.)

  • Use “et al.” when citing more than six authors.


13. Appendices, Figures, and Tables

  • Appendices: Use labels A, B, etc., e.g., Eq. (A.1), Table A.1.

  • Figures: High resolution (300–600 dpi), caption below, centered.

  • Tables: Editable format, numbered, caption above.


14. Supplementary Material

Supplementary files must support the manuscript and will not be altered after publication.
Accepted formats include tables, datasets, images, videos, and software files.


15. Reproduction Permission

Authors must obtain written permission to reuse copyrighted content (figures, tables, etc.) and provide proof of permission.


16. Peer-Review Process

  • Initial editorial screening for relevance and quality.

  • Single-blind peer review by at least two reviewers.

  • Authors should suggest three potential reviewers with valid institutional email addresses.


17. Language & Plagiarism

  • Manuscripts must be written in clear academic English.

  • All submissions are checked for plagiarism using Turnitin.


18. Online First Policy

Accepted articles are published online as "Online First" prior to formal issue assignment.
No post-publication changes are permitted.


19. Self-Citation Policy

Authors should limit self-citations to no more than 5 references or 20%, whichever is lower.


20. Galley Proofs

Galley proofs are provided for correcting typographical errors only and must be returned within 72 hours.


21. Copyright

Authors retain full copyright.
KARS reserves the right to publish and identify KertasSci as the original publisher.


22. Publication Fees

No article processing charges (APCs) or publication fees.
All accepted manuscripts are published free of charge.


23. Length Requirements

Minimum length for all accepted articles: 10 pages and 3500 words, excluding references and appendices.


24. Submission Checklist

Before submitting, ensure the following:

  • One corresponding author is designated

  • Complete contact details are included

  • Manuscript follows the template and formatting rules

  • All figures and tables are embedded with captions

  • Keywords are included

  • Supplementary files (if any) are uploaded
